Sort™ | Coop Norge
Sort™ in a fully automated warehouse
Published by Synnøve Kjerstad
Coop Norge is Norway’s second largest grocery retailer, operating over 1,200 stores nation wide and serving millions of customers. Coop Norge manages an extensive supply chain, including Coop’s logistic center C-Log near Oslo Airport.
C-Log is currently the largest and most advanced logistic center in Norway.
Challenges
C-log faced limitations in their pallets sorting process when it reached the maximum available space. At the same time, the demand for sorted pallets was growing, creating operational pressure.
COOP took this opportunity to look into an alternative approach to manual sorting with the ambition to remove the inconsistent and repetitive tasks, providing low value to both COOP and its operators.
Solution
- 2 sorting robots working in conjunction on one structure
- 600 pallets quality checked and sorted per hour
- 4 infeeds points to increase flexibility
- 13 outfeeds, plus 2 for rejected pallets
- RFID validation of pallets
Benefits
Installing Sort™ allows for increased pallet sorting capacity within the limited surface area, sorting 1,000,000 pallets in the first 6 months with 99.7% stability.
The consistency and high quality of pallets sorted is directly improving the operations of the C-Log fully automated warehouse. In addition, operators have significant gain with the removal of the night shift, on top of improving their daily working conditions. COOP also eliminated the need for 3 forklifts, further improving their ROI.
